Specialized Counseling for Compulsive Behavior, Addiction, and More
To assess unwanted or compulsive behavior problems, our therapists use a multi-stage approach including screening, assessment, designing a treatment plan, and evaluating progress.
We will clearly define the unwanted behavior, its frequency, intensity, and duration.
We will gather information to better understand the context and potential triggers of the behavior. We will gain an understanding of why a specific behavior is occurring by identifying the function it serves for the individual. We will develop a plan focusing on preventing the behavior, teaching alternative behaviors, and reinforcing desired behaviors.
Here are some intervention strategies we often use:
-
Positive Reinforcement: Reinforce desired behaviors to increase their frequency.
-
Negative Reinforcement: Remove aversive stimuli to reduce unwanted behaviors.
-
Extinction: Withhold reinforcement for the unwanted behavior to decrease its frequency.
-
Antecedent Interventions: Modify the environment or situations to prevent the behavior from occurring.
-
Consequence Interventions: Modify the consequences of the behavior to reduce its reinforcing value.
We will together monitor the effectiveness of the treatment plan, noting and celebrating progress, and making adjustments to the plan as needed. We offer ongoing support and guidance to ensure continued success.
